SECURE YOUR PETS
In a letter yesterday, both AWN and T&TSPCA said each time there is a fireworks display, each organisation usually receives calls for help regarding lost dogs or dogs running loose in the streets after the fireworks celebration.
The AWN gave some guidelines to ensure that pet owners do not lose their dogs or find their dogs dead through strangulation. The press release stated that dogs should be secured in kennels or inside houses(in bathrooms or laundry areas if necessary). The AWN also warned that dogs should not be chained in yards as they may strangle themselves on their chains.
It is also important that pet owners place a identification collar, clearly showing a telephone number, the release said. This is important because if the dog escapes there is a chance it will be returned if it can be identified. If no identification is visible there is little chance of it being returned to its home.
