Four Venezuelans on $1.5M drugs charge
The men, who made their first appearance before Senior Magistrate Lianne Lee Kim at the Fourth Court, did not speak English.
Although there was no trained interpreter available, police prosecutor Cpl Kazim Ali, who indicated he spoke “a little” Spanish, offered his services to the court.
The Venezuelans, Eduardo Pascuel, Hiida Arcia, Jose Fajardo and Jesus Marin were arrested and charged after being found on August 29, in possession of four crocus bags containing 107.2 kilos of marijuana by Coast Guard officers on patrol along Trinidad’s North Coast.
The men were remanded in custody and informed of their right to apply for bail before a judge in chambers.
They will reappear in court on September 8.
