Of truth and responsible behaviour

Our present leaders are incapable and unwilling to effectively arrest this malaise for two main reasons: firstly, their sheer incompetence and secondly, and most importantly, their lack of moral authority. Let me state clearly that by “our present leaders” I mean the Government, as well as the Opposition, the media, religious leaders, parents, etc.

The genesis of this disaster has its roots during the period 1956-1986 when we were led by this so called hero, Dr Eric Williams. During his rule, Dr Williams sacrificed truth, responsible behaviour and order for political expediency. Corrupt ministers were never arrested or fired; and this obscenity was condoned by the media, religious leaders and citizens at large. What example was being set then?

Citizens of TT had better realise that the only way forward for this country, or any country for that matter, is firstly, the understanding that nothing must be given priority over truth and responsible behaviour.
