Youths nab wallet snatcher

At about 12.15 pm, yesterday Kelvin Haniff, of Mariott Street, was confronted by a man who pushed him to the ground and then snatched his wallet. A 22-year-old passer- by – Jonathan Mc Intosh – of Kingsley Street, Princes Town, ran to Haniff’s assistance. Three other young men ran after the suspect. Police gave their names as – Duane Douglas, 20, of St John’s Road, South Oropouche; Shammy Khan, 25, of Battoo Avenue, Marabella; Ricky Choon, 20, of Ackbar Trace, Avocat Village, Fyzabad.

The trio, police said, chased the suspect along Mucurapo Street. Upon reaching the car park of the San Fernando City market on Prince of Wales Street, the young men grabbed the suspect. Police said that the young men took him into the market. Police officers attached to the San Fernando CID were called in and the man was subsequently arrested and charged. The wallet containing the cash was discovered in the suspect’s pocket.

“I am proud of their actions and they should be commended. I want to encourage other youths to do the same or like wise, so that we can all help one another in the fight against crime,” police said.
