Arima man shot dead

Darron Founsette, who had been living in Trinidad for the past year after residing in the United States for ten years, was employed as a labourer with the San Juan/Laventille Regional Corporation.

Sources revealed that rival gangs in the area told residents that they were prohibited from walking freely in the community.

According to police reports, about 7 pm, Founsette was standing at the corner of Church Street north and Edna Avenue, when residents heard several gun shots.

When the residents checked Founsette was found lying in a pool of blood. He was shot in his head, chest and stomach. Founsette died on the spot.

The body was viewed by the District Medical Officer and ordered removed to the Forensic Sciences Centre, for an autopsy.

No suspect has so far been held. Meanwhile, the Homicide Bureau of Investigations is continuing inquiries.

Wendy Edwards Peters, Founsette’s mother, told Newsday that she was not interested in vengeance. Founsette returned to Trinidad after he realised that life was hard in America.

“He usually stayed at home with his grandmother after work and played music, he was a very private person,” Peters said when interviewed at the Forensic Sciences Centre.
