Rev Teelucksingh retires after 43 years

He has officially retired from service but because of the shortage of ministers Rev Teelucksingh will most likely continue on a month to month basis from January.

Rev Teelucksingh, who was in charge of four churches (Chase Village, Waterloo, Calcutta and Bank Village) said, “If I have to relive my life I will serve the Presbyterian Church again as we have made an invaluable contribution to the Primary, Secondary and Vocational progress of the country.”

He said he always had a soft spot “for the ideals, philosophy and principles of the Presbyterian Family and despite the setbacks (crimes, anti-social and deviant behaviour, etc) that have been plaguing the nation within recent years, our presence has always been on the upward swing.”

He added that he hoped that his period of Senatorship was meaningful to the society “as I honestly made an attempt to serve the nation well.”

“As Presbyterians our past has been exciting and considering the improvement that we have made as a sector of the population we will face the challenges of the future with hope and fully prepared to play a significant part in the developmental process of modern Trinidad and Tobago,” Rev Teelucksingh added.

Rev Teelucksingh, who received his primary education at the Riversdale Presbyterian School, was first attached to the same School as a teacher through the Pupil Teachers’ System that was then in operation.

He was successful in the London GCE Matriculation Examination as a Private Candidate and with this improved qualification applied and was accepted to pursue Theological studies at the United School of Theology in Jamaica, which he did for four years (1963-1967).

He was ordained as a Minister of Religion in 1967 and first served the the Debe-Diamond Region from 1967-1970.

Among other regions that he was asked to supervise were — Tunapuna (Armalaya) (1970-1973); and Penal-Siparia (1974-1979).

In 1980 he took a Masters Course in Theology in New York, USA at the United Theological Seminary, and returned to TT to continue serving at Couva-Claxton Bay-Balmain (1981—1990). During the period 1990 to 1997 he served the San Juan/Woodbrook areas and then Curepe where he remained from 1997 to 2004.

And his last region of service was at Chase Village, where he retired on Sunday but not before re-opening the Bank Village Church.
