Traffic signs needed in Boissiere
While traffic signs are placed each and every morning on Long Circular Road to assist motorists, no such diligence is exercised on Saddle Road.
Occasionally, the St Clair police place signs at the Rapsey St traffic light intersection, directing motorists to turn left.
For the past two weeks, I have taken it upon myself to place and remove traffic signs at the above intersection.
The signs are kept at Roderick Pillai’s NP service station. Regretfully, but out of an abundance of caution, I informed Sergeant Persad of the St Clair police of my civic action. And while he commended me, he also made it clear that I have no authority to do so, and that I am to cease forthwith.
As of this morning, April 18, I have followed his explicit instructions. In case you did not know, there have been several accidents as a direct consequence of the St Clair police’s failure in doing their duty each and every morning.
Last year, a vehicle ended up in the compound of the Boissiere RC School after crashing into the concrete wall. Several children who were playing in the school yard miraculously escaped unhurt. And only quite recently, a female motorist from the South, unfamiliar with the one-way traffic regulation almost lost her life and that of her unborn baby. I heard the crash from my home.
Notwithstanding the permanent sign at the corner of Newbold Street, it is necessary to place traffic signs to assist motorists who are new to the area. The police station is only 60 seconds away from the Rapsey Street intersection. I urge you to ensure that the St Clair police do their duty each and every morning.
