Martial artistes for Hall of Fame

It is the brainchild of Professor Christopher Francis and will be held at the Cascadia Hotel from 7 pm.

Francis told Newsday he was able to convince the world body to stage the ceremony in the twin-island republic when over 50 top karatekas from the Caribbean region will be inducted.

Some of the inductees will be Master Andre Murray, Master Of The Year, Black Tiger System Karate; Sensei Roger W Williams, Instructor Of The Year, Karate; Master Archie AJ Leiba, Master Instructor/Shuko, Kai; Master Rollins Alleyne, Master Instructor, Chinese Kempo Karate; Master Leroy Bruce, Master Instructor Of The Year, Wind Tai Ju Khan Do System;

Candace Dedier, Contribution To The Martial Arts; Kenneth Dedier, Supporter Of The Martial Arts; and Sensei Jerren Lewis, Sensei Of The Year, Ju-jitsu.

Francis said to be eligible to be included in the prestigious ceremony you must be in the sport for 15 years and more and considered a pillar in society.

He described it as an honour to the martial arts teachers, instructors and students of the sport in the region to be honoured by their peers.

Dr Kevin Hufford from the United States will be the conductor on behalf of the world body and was expected in Trinidad last night. The event is also expected to attract a number of international media and magazines such as Action Martial Arts magazine, The Karate Voice magazine, The Warriors Martial Arts magazine and the Taekwondo Martial Arts Times.

According to Francis there will also be a martial arts seminar at Cascadia today and tomorrow between 10 am and 4 pm.
