Bas: My beret scares them

“Then that is all that matters,” Panday said. Turning to serious issues at hand, Panday said the increase in road deaths was caused by “Manning’s cone hat prophetess”.

“Witchcraft taking nocturnal dips, evil spirits taking hold of our country, people are realising this,” he said adding, “people are not asking any questions, but prefer to pray and are praying to God.”

But he asked, “Pray to God for what? It was not God who put the PNM in power, it was you.”

Getting into his preaching mode, Panday said God helped those who helped themselves. “God will help you if you get up and get.

“Some people have blasphemed against God. They have no gratitude. It is not God who has caused such suffering upon you, it is you yourself. Only people can save people at this moment.”

He then called upon the people to “use what God has given you to remove this curse.”

People are living in misery and uncertainty, he said, pointing out that discrimination was at its peak and that this was a vexing issue since discrimination should not exist in such a plural society.

Panday then accused the Government of being deceitful to the population. Turning his guns on the Congress of the People (COP) party, Panday said this party was no better than the PNM and that the Congress was only in favour of “knife and fork communities”.

Panday told the crowd that they must not hope, for the Congress was something that would never materialise and they must not have any hope in this. You see, Panday said, Winston Dookeran is not in control. It is the old clique of the NAR. They don’t care one damn.

Panday, in opening the Toco/Sangre Grande Constituency Office asked those in charge to make the office an oasis, where people can come and get the necessary help. “When they come crying they must leave laughing. This is the purpose of the office. People are suffering and they need some place or someone to share and hear their burden. Do not disappoint anyone,” he said.
