Caledonia’s Oliver wins TV

The dreadlocked player, who returned to the top flight in local football this year after plying his trade with Super League club Crab Connection last season, was elated to be named the Courts MVP of the first round.

“It’s a really great feeling to be named the player of the round and to know that it is the very first of such an award, makes it even more special,” he told ttproleague.com. The midfield maestro also waxed philosophical about the award.

“This award is really great for the league because now the young players in the league can strive for something and be rewarded for their hard work,” he stated. Oliver is mainly responsible for helping Caledonia finish the first round of the league on top of the standings.

He said the player incentives like Courts MVP will go a long way to market the players and the league. “I’m really happy with the initiatives the league has implemented this season because it has helped to market the players and to increase the public’s awareness of the league,” Oliver said. He has earned the nickname Marvin “90th” Oliver for his habit of scoring goals in the 90th minute and was full of praise for sponsors Courts.

“Hats off to Courts, as a corporate entity they have shown they are willing to support football in this country, not only the finished product but also to provide incentives to enhance the development of players,” he said.

“Courts really has come up big this year first sponsoring the Pro Bowl, then giving the MVP of the Pro Bowl a Bow Flex machine and now giving the MVP of each round a television, that’s just fantastic,” he said. Oliver gave some insight into what he thought was going on in the league. “The league’s monthly magazine and website have been a great addition to the local football so now the players can be highlighted not only locally but also internationally and this has really helped to build the players’ sense of worth and value.”
