Trincity youngster collects Republic football honours
The camp closed last Saturday evening with an awards function at Republic Bank Sports Club, Eighth Avenue Extension, Barataria.
Springer, a student of Trinity College East, said after receiving his award that he hopes his selection as the best player in his age group will spur him on to help him achieve his long-term goal of becoming a professional player.
Kaydion Gabriel and Christian Guiseppi were chosen as the most outstanding players in the Under-16 and Under-15 categories respectively. Gabriel was one of two players to receive two individual awards, as he was also named the Under-16 free kick champion. The other double-champion was Chenade Prudent who copped the Under-16 Most Improved Player and penalty shoot-out awards.
Among the other top players during the five-day camp were Michael De Four (Outstanding Goalkeeper); Leroy Small, Robert Mathura and Isiah Frank (Most Enthusiastic and Hardworking players).
Tisha Lee, Corporate Communications at Republic Bank, urged all the participants to take the valuable lessons learnt at the camp back to their teams, schools, families and neighbourhoods and share them with their friends. “You have spent the last five days learning some important football skills from some of the top coaches in Trinidad and Tobago,” said Lee.
Facilitators of the camp was SKHY Football Institute whose coaches included former national players Selris Figaro and Reynold George, Colin Skeene (Director), Neil Sorzano, Vernon Bailey and Denyse Arneaud. “The Skeene/ Hyacinth Football Institute shares our vision of youth development through sport and working together our approach to moulding well rounded individuals through structured programmes has been tremendously successful,” said Lee.
