Scotland in League One ‘Team of Year’

The 29-year-old Scotland, who netted 29 goals in his first season at Swansea (he is on a two-year contract), got the accolade at the PFA award ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel, London on Sunday.

And Scotland’s consistency was vital as Swansea earned promotion to the 2008-2009 English Champ-ionship Division. “I think it’s a good achievement but importantly it’s about the team and being able to help them get promoted and win the League title is the bigger achievement for me,” Scotland said.

“We worked hard all season and I think all the boys deserved it and the fans were brilliant,” he continued. “The club on a whole is an ambitious one and hopefully we can carry on from here and continue to be successful in the Championship Division next season.”

Mike Berry, who is an agent for a number of English-based TT players, including Scotland, was high in praise for the muscular forward.

“Jason has been a real gem for Swansea this season and his selection on the PFA Team of the Year is just reward for his efforts,” said Berry. “He has kept the TT flag flying very high,” Berry continued. “I think they will be a force in the Championship next season and the fans are loving the success at the moment.”

In related news, 26-year-old midfielder Silvio Spann has refuted claims that he has been axed by English Division Two club Wrexham. Spann, who joined Wrexham from W Connection last August, on a three-year-deal, was transfer listed by the Wales-based team on Friday.

“I think it’s wrong for a report (on a local newspaper) to say I have been axed by Wrexham,” said the soft-spoken Spann. “I’ve just come off an ankle injury and it’s been a disappointing season for the entire club. The management spoke to me and I will be back for pre-season but they have opened the options for me by placing me on the transfer list so that if something better comes up I can move on,” he said. “If not I will be with Wrexham for the new season.”

With the English season drawing to a close, Spann plans to return to Connection to train during the ‘off-season’.

“Right now my ambition is to regain full fitness and come back better,” he added. “I want to play international football so being in good shape is top priority list right now.”
