Death for talking to gangster’s girl

Jamal Peters of Pashley Street, Laventille reportedly left home to purchase a soft drink at a grocery when he saw a young woman standing opposite the grocery.

Peters began talking with the young lady, who stoutly ignored him. He then crossed the road and went to the grocery where he purchased the soft drink and two chocolate bars.

He returned to where the woman was standing and tried to start up a conversation with her. Eyewitnesses told police that the woman’s boyfriend — a known gangster — was standing nearby, silently observing Peters as he continued talking to her.

The man swiftly crossed the street, walked up to Peters and shot him several times.

As Peters fell to the ground, the woman looked at him, before turning and walking away. The gunman fled the scene. Peters died where he fell. Officers of the Besson Street Police Station were contacted and they went to the scene along with crime scene officers.

The body was viewed by the District Medical Officer who ordered it removed to the Forensic Science Centre in St James for an autopsy to be carried out today.

Police investigators told Newsday that Peters was recently released from prison after serving two years for larceny. Police added that he had developed a reputation as a ladies man, a lifestyle which eventually led to his death.
