Five homeless after arson attack

Ramkumar Khadoo, 60, recounted that he was home alone with his nephew Shivanand, when the incident occurred. Khadoo lived in the house with his two sisters Leela Khadoo, 47, Jassmatee Ramkissoon, 53, and his nephews Shivanand Khadoo, eight, and Rashad Khan, 12. Khadoo said, “I was watching television at the time when I heard something fall inside the house. All of a sudden, the whole place was ablaze. I got up and me and Shivanand ran outside,” Khadoo said.

Members of the family told Newsday that for the past several weeks, they were being threatened by persons known to them. The family said that everything they had in the house was destroyed, including the children’s school books and uniforms.

The family is pleading to members of the public for financial assistance.

Yesterday, Couva/Talparo/Tabaquite Regional Corporation councillor, Premnath Ramnath, delivered several mattresses and hampers to the family. PC Louis of the Couva Police Station is continuing investigations.
