Fierce battle for basketball post
The Annual General Meeting (AGM) willl be held next Saturday at the Conference Room of the Chaguanas Borough Corporation.
Brian Manning, son of Prime Minister Patrick Manning has already publicly stated his intentions to bid again to run the affairs of the basketball federation.
Last year Manning led a break-away faction in moving a vote of no-confidence against John and other members of the federation, including vice-president of Marketing and Communications June Rogers and Assistant Secretary Darren Joseph.
Newsday has learnt that former national basketball ace and current Human Resource Executive Courtnay Mc Nish has thrown his hat into the ring to contest the top position in the sport.
Mc Nish has shared a close relationship with the John-led slate and members are envisioning stability in the sport through good leadership, with Mc Nish at the helm.
He is no stranger to the sport, being a secretary of the NBFTT back in 1996 when Trinidad and Tobago hosted the Caricom Basketball Championship for the last time. His resume also included being treasurer of the North Zone Basketball League in 2002.
Mc Nish’s slate will also comprise Earle Noel, vice-president of Operations and Development and another former national standout Inskip Pollonais, who was also the Financial Comptroller of the Home Construction Limited (HCL).
Pollonais will contest the post of vice president of Finance in the federation.
The slate — Courtney Mc Nish (President); Inskip Pollonais (Vice President, Finance); Earle Noel (Vice-President, Operations and Development); Robert D’Arceuil (Vice President, Training and Technical Support).
Others in the mix are Melonie Morton (Vice-President, Marketing and Communications); Kelvin Roberts (General Secretary); Lisa-Gail Ali (Assistant Secretary); Bertram Doyle (Special Advisor).
