Children lead at YFC prayer meeting
The meeting, entitled “Prayer Power Kids”, lasted just over two hours and saw the beginning of the mobilisation of a child prayer army. Children were engaged at every stage of the meeting to participate in worship, prayer, dance and even the ministry of the word. The event was well supported by parents and adults who were just as enthusiastic as the young ones. It was a milestone in the education of the church as kids were being equipped to become powerful prayer intercessors.
Children were the centre of attention for the day as the event began with a prayer by one of their peers, followed by the national anthem being led by another young starlet. The Kids Praise team led in worship aided by their adult counterparts. Kim Peters hosted the affair in conjunction with Heartline Kids TV host Shemeka Ramlal and there was high crowd participation throughout the session.
One enjoyable moment was the retelling of the story of Goliath and David, where kids rushed to the stage to reenact the battle between the Israelites and the Philistines. It was definitely a crowd pleaser, as was the drama presented by the All for Jesus puppet ministry and the dance presented by the children of the Siparia/Penal region. The session was fun filled but did not detract from its real purpose, ie to educate the young ones about the importance of prayer.
The director of Youth for Christ, Pastor Frank Porter saw this event as necessary because children are a powerful resource which is being under utilised by the church. The audience was treated to a video feature of the recently held Caribbean Prayer Summit in Jamaica where children prayed and people were healed. The testimony of Pastor Josephine Cummings and her granddaughter was also shared as Pastor Porter underscored the effectiveness of a child’s prayer. The mobilisation of a child prayer army was emphasised as an important tool in rebuilding the broken walls of our nation. The most noteworthy event of the session was the time engaged in prayer. A group of children of varying ages took centre stage as they addressed the issues facing this nation.
They prayed boldly and confidently, knowing that their prayers would be answered. Most striking was the prayer of young Joshua, only five or six years old who called upon the authority of God as he prayed for the nation. All in all it was a time for letting the talents and giftings of our nation’s children come to the forefront.
Eager faces were glued to the stage on this memorable occasion as the Soldiers for Jesus movie was shown. The movie, a production of Youth for Christ illustrates in a child friendly manner how kids can become evangelists and prayer warriors in their homes and schools. The message was well conveyed as demonstrated by the number of children who committed themselves to establishing a prayer altar in their homes among other things. Children were also encouraged to attend Camp Glorious, an annual event held by the organisation during the July/August vacation, to further their knowledge of God.
