WBA declare Ramnarine ‘champion recess’
This is because of a recent ruling by the WBA to allow Venezuelan Ana Fernandez, who was beaten by Ramnarine on a controversial split decision on July 31 at the Central Regional Indoor Sports Complex, Saith Park, Chaguanas, to fight against Ibeth Zamora of Mexico on that September 5 date in Panama City.
At a press briefing at the Sweet Lime Restaurant in Woodbrook yesterday, boxing promoter and match-maker Boxu Potts announced that the WBA declared Ramnarine “Champion Recess” or temporary champion, and therefore will meet the winner of the Fernandez and Zamora contest on October 3, right here in Trinidad. The ruling was handed down after Ramnarine, last week submitted documentation to the WBA indicating she was medically unfit to enter the ring for a September 5 rematch.
Ramnarine, the country’s first world title boxer was deemed medically unfit and suffering from Bursitis by Dr Jacob Hadeed.
The WBA accepted Ramnarine’s request for an extended period of recovery, but ordered her to appear in Panama City to be examined by a WBA-selected doctor on September 4. Potts said, however, he and Ramnarine will not heed the call. And instead will allow WBC executive Calvin Inalsingh and a team of doctorsto medically examine her.
