New look Ravi B and Karma to sing for fathers
He will be accompanied by the band Karma with his singing sisters Nisha and Nalini Bissambhar. Other top performers at this event include: Rakesh Yankaran, Satnarine Ragoo, Nalini Bissambhar, Kenneth Supersad and Rick Ramoutar. Dances will be provided by the Kiss Natraj Dance Company.
While winning the 2010 Chutney Soca monarch was the highlight of his career thus far, Ravi B has also won several awards at the 103 FM Hall of Fame show.
Ravi B started singing at the age of 13. He attended the Sangre Grande Hindu School, and later North Eastern College. He is pursuing a BA in Business Administration at UWI.
Apart from being one of the lead vocalists of Karma, he is music director, producer and arranger. He is also a presenter at 90.5FM.
Ravi B says he is inspired by international artistes like Kumar Sanu, Sonu Nigam, Eminem and Machel Montano. “I have taken tips from all these acts and try to implement them in my own performance, “ he said. Ravi has toured the Caribbean, US, Canada, Guyana, Europe and Suriname doing remixed, soca, chutney and Bollywood tunes. “My life is on stage, because one has to prepare and groom themselves for the stage when he or she is off the stage,” he said.
Ravi B added that as an artiste one has to be aware of any trend changes in the music industry while reacting with their own music.
“It is really a lot of work to be an artiste in music and song,” he said. However, he noted that despite the work and dedication, it brings him tremendous joy to please the crowds.
While growing in Sangre Grande, Ravi did not get into music as a child but he would support his siblings, Nisha, Ravi and Nalini.
“They were into the arts and I would just clap along with them. Then I was put in the spotlight one day to pick a tune on the keyboard. The notes came to me naturally. I did not know I could have played this instrument so well,” he stated.
Adding that there and then it was no turning back for him as spent most of his time in learning music with his brother Anil. The decision to sing came when he had to entertain friends.
He started off doing simple tunes and this led to him singing the more difficult songs from India and then on to soca and chutney soca music.
