Joe Public confirm Latchoo
According to the club’s manager Joseph Sam Phillip, “Rajesh Latchoo is now the head coach of Joe Public.
“We have created history once more, with the youngest coach in the League.”
The 27-year-old Princes Town resident found himself at the top coaching spot with the club following the dismissal of Derek King in February.
Latchoo, who was King’s assistant, was left with limited resources after the club had already parted ways with influential players Japanese Yu Hoshide, fellow midfielder Trent Noel and top forward Kerry Baptiste.
Latchoo, now the coach in the League, suffered a 1-0 preliminary round defeat against Joe Public’s Super League team in the first round of the Toyota Classic with striker Dorion Robinson the scorer.
However, with little to refocus and the promotion of Robinson into the Pro League side, Latchoo went on to lead Joe Public to the Digicel Pro Bowl title with a 3-0 win over Police FC in the quarterfinal round, a 3-2 win over Caledonia AIA in the semi-final round and a 1-0 win against W Connection on April 1, with Andre Toussaint the scorer.
Looking ahead to the new season which begins on August 12, Latchoo welcomes the challenge as coach.
“I look forward to the challenge,” he said. “…because obviously, preparing a team is different from taking over a team.
“Now the new challenge and aim for us, is preparing a young team that will develop to win the League or at least finish near the top spot.”
Latchoo said that he has confidence in his young players that made up his team during the months of February and March because they have shown their worth.
He said, “Winning the Pro Bowl was a good experience. It’s always a learning experience, because every day we learn new things where we can correct or improve certain things.”
