Overcome crowned Beasal champs

The day-long tournament, which took place on June 11, was facilitated by the Chaguanas Borough Corporation and held under the auspices of the SW Touring Team.

But the winners proved that they could overcome any obstacles, as ex-national Under-17 striker Gorean Highley netted the winner in the sudden death phase.

Overcome FC walked away with the $10,000 jackpot, the SW Beasal Invitational Challenge Trophy and medals. Highley was named as the Most Valuable Player (MVP) and he shared the Golden Boot award (for the Leading Goal Scorer) with Toyota’s Kareem Joseph.

Both players notched six goals and they were recipients of prizes from Courts (Trinidad) Limited and Lollabee Cellular.

Geoffrey Edwards, the event manager of SW Touring Team, said, “this tournament is the continuation of our drive as a sport event management organisation to provide information and sensitise the nation of the different variants of the sport of football through competition.

“We also saw this as an opportunity to bridge the social and sporting gap, contribute to cross cultural dialogue, understanding, unity, tolerance and peaceful coexistence in the borough of Chaguanas.”

Sponsors for this event were KFC, Turbo Energy, Courts (Trinidad) Limited, Blue Waters, LLB, Malta Carib, Lollabee Cellular, Naipaul’s Xtra Foods, Body Mates by Rachel and Trini Rock Climbers.
