Rock school camp premiers today
This musical Summer Camp began last month at Movie Towne, Invaders Bay, Port-of-Spain and continues inside the UTT Campus at NAPA for the next five weeks.
In addition to learning the basics of playing the guitar, keyboard, drums and bass, students are also given vocal training and instant exposure via the ‘reality-series’ style television production which captures all the action at the camp every week.
This 30-minute production is scheduled to premiere on entertainment web portal, www.overtimett.com today at 6.30 pm.
School Founder/Principal, Nigel Rojas thanked officials from the Ministry of Arts and Mulitculturalism, “I must thank the Government and the Ministry of Arts and Multiculturalism for supporting this initiative and allowing these young talents to make use of this auspicious facility. School of Rock TT is not a music school per se, but it is an introduction into the art of musicianship, teamwork and a great vacation experience for these youngsters who already have the talent, drive and desire to advance the music and culture of TT.”
“By the time this camp is done, each student would have faced the cameras and whatever latent fears and/or hang-ups they may have had regarding that kind of exposure, they would have furthered their skills in playing their instrument of choice and would have seen and heard some of the top musicians and acts in the country perform – as they pass through each week. Add that to the life-altering experience of forming, managing and being in a band, alongside their new friends and (in some cases) family members and you’re sure to see a crop of kids at the end that are wiser and smarter, more responsible, more self-assured and confident and better able to take on life’s challenges in general,” he added.
Show Producer and Overtime Founder, Nigel Telesford said that “because the internet allows for a global audience, all parties agreed to premiere each episode to the world” and invite their feedback and opinions ahead of local television audiences.
