Autopsy confirms drowning

A grieving Johanna Mc Mayo, mother of the construction worker who lived at Sobo Village, La Brea in Point Fortin questioned why a friend of her son failed to alert anyone after Charles disappeared beneath the water as they were bathing together.

Mc Mayo said her son had gone on an excursion with his girlfriend and other friends.

Although an autopsy revealed Charles drowned, his mother believed foul play was involved. Johanna Mc Mayo told Newsday her son was not a swimmer and avoided deep water.

She said Charles’ friends begged him to return for another bath in the sea after he had come out and changed his clothing. Charles was part of a group that had gone to Manzanilla on a beach excursion on Saturday. Mc Mayo said it was only after the driver of the maxi taxi enquired about Charles that it was revealed that he drowned.

She said the driver and other passengers began a search and his body was found on shore.

Mc Mayo said her son was a nice person who was always rescuing stray animals. She said he was hoping to join the police service next year.
