Mr Vegas to perform in Maracas Night Club tomorrow

In 1998 Mr Vegas released his first album, Heads High, which won a Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Award for Best Reggae Artist and which made it to number five on the US Reggae chart.

His 2000 single, “Hot Gal Today” was a minor hit on the US R&B charts, and in 2001, he released the album, Damn Right, featuring guest appearances from Shaggy and Big Yard. This album went to number two on the US Reggae chart. He then released Pull Up LP which again saw chart success.

In 2006 he did a soca collaboration with Machel Montano, “Dance With You” on Machel’s BODY album. Mr Vegas also recorded “On The Floor” with TT soca diva Destra Garcia on her album, Soca or Die in 2008. His hits include, “Hot It Up,” “Hot Wuk,” “Taxi Fare” and “Tek Weh Yuhself”.

Mr Vegas was born in Kingston in 1974. The name “Mr Vegas” was given to him by his schoolyard football-mates, who thought that he kicked football like a Las Vegas dancer. In his early years as a singing deejay, Vegas sang covers of Jamaican hits at local parties and shows, however he acquired a reputation as a troublemaker.

He found fame in 1998 with hits such as “Yu Sure”, “Jack It Up”, and “Latest News”. For his first major hit, Vegas played off of “Who Am I” to create “Nike Air”, which became a huge hit in Jamaica. The next single, “Heads High”, followed its success in Jamaica with a chart run in the UK. Vegas became increasingly in demand as a guest artiste by acts such as Sean Paul.
