Americans dancing to soca
The steelpan is being taken over in the schools in the US and they are playing great music. Soca and calypso are being played in the exercise rooms, parties and gyms by the Americans. Imagine palancing in the gym and hearing “wotless” and all the songs from Trinidad and Tobago. The Americans are dancing to more soca than we are.
It seems as though when Carnival is over, everyone turns to reggae in Trinidad and even some of the artists in Trinidad when they speak, they seem to be trying to speak like Jamaicans, what is up with that? Jamaican products are being sold all over the US, they push their culture and they are proud of their heritage. When are we going to realise how talented we are and show the pride and appreciation in being a Trinidadian.
You can go to any part of the world and you hear calypso, soca and pan. I have travelled and when I see anything from Trinidad whether it is a bottle of pepper sauce, or a bag of curry powder, it warms my heart. There are some products from Trinidad in Maryland but the big push is always from Jamaica and Guyana. We need to open up the market and start pushing our products more and you would be surprised how they would sell. When we do not have a choice and all we see are Jamaican products, we buy them.
Please push our culture and be proud of who we are. Also, people in Trinidad need to stop turning a blind eye to crime and speak up and take back the country from the criminals. It is funny that the criminals can kill people in cold blood but they are scared to die.
The police cannot do it all, it takes everyone to make a difference. Parents turn a blind eye to their kids knowing fully well that they are up to no good. We have to take back our beautiful country. Many nationals would love to return home but when they read about the crime and the boldness of the criminals, it is a deterrent. We know that crime happens everywhere but at least here the police finds the criminals and they are sentenced to prison. They are not brazen like the criminals in Trinidad.
Wake-up Trinidad and Tobago and be proud of our heritage, make our country beautiful and safe once more.
