McLean advances to second round at W/Cup
Riding in Heat One of the opening round, McLean lined up against Jose Sanchez Moreno (Spain), Francesco Ceci (Italy), Tomoyuki Kawabata (Japan), Carlos Carrasco (Mexico) and Ilya Okunev (Russia). However, McLean finished fifth in this ride and was forced to contest the first round repechage heat.
Once again, the Team Beacon rider contested Heat One and clinched a spot in the next round with a third place finish. Finishing ahead of McLean was Ukrainian Gennadiy Genus and Spain’s Sanchez respectively.
The second round of competition was scheduled to be contested late yesterday evening, but up to press time, results were not yet available. McLean was expected to line up in Heat One, against Quentin Lafargue (France), Marc Schroeder (Germany), Russia’s Okunev, Ukranian Genus and Angel Pulgar (Venezuela).
Meanwhile, Beacon teammate Quincy Alexander had a tough time in Men’s 1km Time Trial.
The local rider could only muster a 15th place finish in 1:05.365. His times throughout the race were as follows; 250m (19.813), 500m (34.104), 750m (49.181) and 1:05.365 respectively. Alexander’s approximate speed was calculated at 55.07s km/h. Receiving top honours in this event was Colombian Fabian Puerta (1:00.982), claiming silver was Englishman Kian Emadi-Coffin (1:01.368) and bronze was taken by Frenchman Lafargue (1:01.386).
