Burger Boys’ wins Large Business Award
All-round excellence in business, financial performance, future growth and competitiveness were some of the critieria on which Burger Boys was judged.
After brothers Mario and Norman Sabga-Aboud opened the first Burger Boys restaurant on Frederick Street, Port-of-Spain in 1987, the Burger Boys has grown to include Rituals Coffee House, Pizza Boys, Donut Boys, Church’s Chicken, Wok n Roll, Vie De France and VIP Flyers Club.
Mario Sabga-Aboud, chairman of the Pizza Boys Group of Companies, the parent company of Burger Boys, yesterday said a drive to “make something out of nothing” was the key reason for the restaurant chain’s success.
“As an entrepreneur I love to be challenged, I live for this. When everyone else is blind to the potential, I see what it can be,” Sabga-Aboud said in brief remarks during a presentation ceremony at Pizza Boys Group of Companies, Lower Boundary Road, San Juan yesterday.
He said no one thought a burger restaurant would survive in the local market, but the nay- sayers were proven wrong as it became a successful business.
“This became our platform for everything that followed from pizza to Cantonese to donuts and now coffee,” he said.
Hailing the Rituals Coffee House brand as his “new passion”, Sabga-Aboud said the franchise is expanding across the Caribbean and globally.
“Rituals Coffee House and all of our brands under the Pizza Boys Group of Companies are Trinidad and Tobago-born and represent the Caribbean people. I accept this award on behalf of my Burger Boys family of 1,000 strong employees,” he said.
Given its success and projected growth the group is being rebranded as the Global Brands Group of Companies.
Caribbean Business Awards, established in 2010 in Antigua, was founded by Janice and Derrick Sutherland.
