UK’s latest travel advisory to TT

While stating that there were no travel restrictions to the country in place, the advisory reminded British nationals that there were high levels of violent crime, especially in certain areas of Port- of-Spain, such as Laventille, Morvant and Barataria.

It stated there had been robberies at tourist sites including Fort George, Las Cuevas beach, and at the car parks of shopping malls, night clubs and restaurants.

It also advised visitors to be alert and take care while walking around downtown, or the port area, and to secure their vehicles or living accommodation, as theft was a problem.

The advisory noted that visits to Tobago were usually “trouble free”, but, general security measures should be taken.

It said, “Tourists in Tobago, including British nationals, have been the victims of robberies and the inability of the authorities to apprehend and prosecute the perpetrators remains a concern.”

In addition, it warned, when renting villas in Tobago, to make sure that adequate security measures, such as burglar proof, external security lighting, and more, are in place.
