SPORTT celebrates TT hockey men

The squad’s showing saw them end a 46-year drought of Pan Am medals for the team while also advancing to the 2017 Championships.

At the celebratory function held for the squad, SPORTT chief executive officer, John Mollenthiel congratulated the players on behalf of the company and the Ministry of Sport. In his address, he acknowledged the commitment shown by SPORTT’s Elite Development and Performance Unit (EDPU) staff and offered their services to any other national athlete or team that is keen on improving their physical preparation for competition.

For a period of three months prior to the Pan Am tournament, the team was assisted in their physical and mental preparation by the EDPU.

At least three times a week, the players underwent physical assessments, strength and conditioning, massage therapy and sport psychology sessions.

According to team captain, Darren Cowie, this measure of intangible support from SPORTT was invaluable to the locally-based players and contributed to their ability to extend themselves on the field of play and their eventual success.

The national women’s squad, which will also participate in the Pan Am Cup from September 21-28 in Mendoza, Argentina, is currently benefitting from sport science and medicine services of the EDPU.
