That’s a Pompek?
The original Pompeks were a straight cross between Pekingese and Pomeranian parents. This cross produced a dog that has the folded ears and Chrysanthemum tail of a Pekingese, combined with the longer legs and pointed nose of a Pomeranian.
In succeeding generations, other small dogs have joined the mix, so that now the term is often used here to cover almost any small, furry dog. In general, they are excellent watchdogs with ear-ringing barks. Both of the original breeds are known for their bravery — and their descendants will gladly challenge any larger dog, with the expectation of winning the ensuing argument. They do require regular brushing and professional grooming from time to time. Please don’t allow your dog to become matted, as this is very uncomfortable for the dog and makes it difficult to see and control fleas, ticks and skin conditions.
Whether your little dog is a true Pekingese/Pomeranian cross, or can only wave at those ancestors from a great distance, appreciate it for what it is. Has the pup you rescued when tiny and nearly furless, grown up to be a tiny, smooth-coated pothound, with hound markings and not a “feather” to its tail? Love it anyway! It will be happy to be a member of your family and reward you with loyalty. Make your slogan “ Give Pots a Chance!”. Follow us on Facebook.
