Cops nab ‘hungry’ bandits
With stolen items listed as electronic items and groceries — half bottle salt, quarter tin Nesquick, I kg flour, seasoning, ketchup and pepper sauce — police believe the bandits were hungry.
They recovered items also included children’s sneakers, a school laptop, a DVD player, a television set, a microwave and an electric fan.
Police reported at about 7am yesterday, Joyce Francis, 46, of North Eastern Settlement, Sangre Grande secured her home and went to visit friends.
Francis told police she returned at about 3pm and discovered her home broken into and upon checking saw her television, and her children’s laptop computer missing. When she went into the kitchen she did not see her microwave, and various grocery items were also missing.
She immediately reported the break-in to the Sangre Grande Police. A party of police officers led by Ag Insp Lutchman responded and carried out inquiries.
The police acting on information received, went to Machak Trace, Foster Road, Sangre Grande, where they arrested two men, ages 23 and 34.
Police also recovered all the stolen items.
The two arrested men were taken to the Sangre Grande Police Station where they were questioned by police officers as to why they stole the grocery items.
The 34-year-old man told police that his girlfriend was pregnant and he is unemployed so he wanted to get something for her.
They were then cautioned by Ag Cpl Randy Castillo of Sangre Grande CID and charged with house breaking and larceny.
Both men are to make their court appearance tomorrow.
