Parkites, M/Boys in T20 Festival semis
On Monday, the Parkites earned a comfortable seven-wicket win over Caldrac while Merry Boys whipped First Citizens Clarke Road by five wickets.
Caldrac, who decided to bat upon winning the toss, were bundled out for 99 in 19.1 overs with Franklyn Rouse scoring 54 (50 balls, five boundaries, one six) while Ray Campbell chipped in with 11. Left-arm spinner Khary Pierre captured three wickets for 21 runs while “guest player”, leg-spinner Imran Khan had 2/8. Former Barbados and West Indies fast bowler Fidel Edwards was also among the wickets, with 2/16.
Queen’s Park were hardly troubled as they responded with 100/3 in 14.5 overs with captain Justin Guillen hitting 41 (26 balls, five boundaries, two sixes), while Akeal Hosein and Marlon Barclay were not out on 23 and 19 respectively. Off-spinner Rouse took 2/26 but he had little support from his fellow bowlers. Khan was adjudged as the Man of the Match.
Later in the day, the Merry Boys outfit ousted Clarke Road, the 2014 national 50-overs champs.
Clarke Road were skittled out for 88 in 18.1 overs with off-spinner and captain Aneil Kanhai taking 3/21, while pacers Marlon Richards (2/5) and Javon Searles (2/14), and left-arm spinner Ricky Jaipaul (2/17) were also among the wickets. Derone Davis posted a run-a-ball 27 (two fours and a six), while Yannick Ottley had 14, Nicholas Pooran 12 and Ryan Ramdass 10.
Davis (4/21) with his left-arm spin while pacer Ray Jordan (1/10) reduced Merry Boys to 30/5 after seven overs but Rayad Emrit (32 off 39 balls with two fours and a six) and Man of the Match Searles (21 off 34 balls) guided Merry Boys to 92/5 with 2.1 overs remaining.
The Premier Division semi-final matches will take place tomorrow, with Queen’s Park facing the winner of the Moosai Sports-Jenexcon Tableland quarter-final, while Merry Boys will be meeting the winner of the Munroe Road-Powergen quarter-final.
On today’s agenda will be the third-placed playoff and final of the Championship Division, with F&E Diamond United facing Evergreen in the third-place game at 3 pm while, at 7 pm, HKL Aranjuez will tackle Calcutta Sports in the final.
