TT Under-17s finally win
The win was the first in the tournament for the hosts and 2013 champs, who were beaten by Barbados, Jamaica and Guyana in their earlier contests.
The Leewards, who batted first after winning the toss, finished with 243 runs for nine runs in their allotted 50 overs courtesy of 75 runs from opener Ross Powell, 62 from Dimitri Adams, 30 not out from Jaeel Clarke and 30 from Tyrone Williams.
Bowling for Trinidad and Tobago, Man-of-the-Match Bryan Boodram took four wickets for 48 runs while Nathaniel McDavid got 2/30 and Emilo Gopaul 2/53.
Brandon Maharaj made 65 and Keegan Simmons 53 as they featured in a 105-run second wicket stand to guide Trinidad and Tobago to 247/7 with one over remaining. Kirstan Kallicharan chipped in with 33 while Boodram made 26 not out and Sachin Seecharan 26.
Jadel Richardson was the chief destroyer for the Leewards with 3/58.
In a top-of-the-table clash, the Windward Islands moved up to first, swapping places with Barbados, following a five-wicket win at Shaw Park.
Barbados, who elected to bat first, were restricted to 190/8 in 50 overs with Yvan Grant striking 59 while Dominic Drakes (43 not out) and Shamar Springer (25) also made useful knocks.
Joshua Mann claimed 2/28 for the Windwards.
Opener Anil Matthew, with an unbeaten 83, combined with Emmanuel Stewart (75) for a second-wicket partnership of 146 was enough to see the Windwards respond with 191/5, with four deliveries left. Drakes captured 3/34 for the Barbadians.
In the day’s other fixture, Guyana crushed Jamaica by 139 runs at Bon Accord.
Choosing to bat after winning the toss, Guyana tallied 225/9 in 50 overs with Adrian Sukwah hitting 59, Travis Persaud (35), Kerno Paul (25), Richie Looknauth (24 not out) and Sherfane Rutherford (23). Michael Frew collected 3/51 for Jamaica, while Tyrone Daley had 2/48.
But Jamaica were undone by the bowling of Man-of-the-Match Paul (4/28), Rutherford (3/17) and Looknauth (2/20) as they were bundled out for 86 in 27 overs.
Only three Jamaican batsmen reached double-figures — Brad Barnes (28), Daley (26 not out) and Devaraine Rowe (10).
The Fifth and Final Round will take place tomorrow.
