Autopsies after weekend crime spree

Kadeem Sawyer, a 24-year-old vegetable vendor who worked at the Tunapuna Market, was shot dead near his kiosk on Saturday morning. Relatives yesterday said Sawyer was a father of a boy aged three. He was described as an easygoing person who was not involved in any gang activity. Relatives said neither they nor the police have any clues as to why he was shot.

According to police, at about 1.20 am on Saturday, Sawyer of Achong Trace, Tunapuna was sitting on a chair near his stand in the Tunapuna market when two men approached and shot him several times. An autopsy confirmed Sawyer’s death from multiple gunshot wounds.

Meanwhile, an autopsy done on robbery victim Ebo Adams, who was shot dead while playing cards at Pinto Road, Arima, also confirmed death as a result of multiple gunshot wounds. Adams was described by relatives as a quiet person who was fond of liming.

Relatives said Adams and Jason Pierre, both aged 23, were walking along Wall Street, Pinto Road when they were approached by a gunman who demanded the money they had just won in a card game played nearby. While giving up the money, Adams taunted the gunman, who opened fire. Adams was shot in the head while Pierre was shot multiple times about the body and is warded at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) in Mt Hope.

In another case, Insaff Mohamed, who was beaten to death near his home on SS Erin Road, Batchia Village, on Divali morning (last Thursday) died from blunt force trauma to the head, according to an autopsy done yesterday.

Relatives said that at about 1.20 am last week Thursday, Mohamed had just returned home from a casino where he won a large sum of money. The 35-year-old father of four was waiting outside the door of his house, when he was approached from behind by an unknown assailant, who struck him over the head several times with a piece of iron.

The assailant snatched the money won in the casino and fled. No arrests have been made in his murder.

Yet in another case, relatives of 16-year-old Anthony Sieunarine who was stabbed to death while walking with a group of friends along Pro Queen Street, in Arima were seen comforting each other at the centre.

The teen, according to a report, was walking with friends along Pro Queen Street when a car with two occupants pulled alongside the group, causing them to run. Sieunarine ran onto De Verteuil Street, where he tripped and fell. One of the men exited the car and stabbed the teenager in the neck, then escaped in the vehicle.

An autopsy done on Dale Mathis, a father of five who was shot dead in the car park of Tru Valu supermarket, Diamond Vale, Diego Martin and confirmed death being due to multiple gunshot wounds. Relatives were reluctant to speak to reporters yesterday at the centre.

Police alleged that Mathis was the leader of a gang in the Richplain area and according to reports, was sitting in a white Nissan X-Trail SUV, parked near the First Citizens Bank ATM machine when two masked men in a blue Nissan Wingroad wagon approached.

The occupants opened fire on Mathis, killing him on the spot.
