Scotiabank has new chairman
A release from the bank yesterday said it welcomes the new chairman to its Board of Directors who was elected a Director and appointed Chairman effective March 3. King is the Senior Vice President and Region Head, International Banking, Bank of Nova Scotia.
He is responsible for Scotiabank’s personal, commercial, wealth management and insurance operations in the Caribbean, Central America, Uruguay and Thailand. In addition, he has responsibility for retail and small business collections activities throughout the International Banking division.
King joined the Bank of Nova Scotia in 1990 and after assignments in branch banking and risk management, joined the International Banking division in 1994, with his first assignment in the Cayman Islands. He took on increasingly responsible roles in Trinidad and Tobago and the Bahamas where he was Managing Director of Corporate Finance. King joined the Asia Pacific region in 2004 as Country Head for Greater China and added Corporate Development responsibilities in 2006 when he led the investment in Thanachart Bank in Thailand and subsequently joined the board.
After leading the Thanachart Bank acquisition of Siam City Bank in 2010, King moved to Thailand as Vice Chairman and Deputy CEO of the group, now the fifth largest in Thailand with over 620 branches, 2,200 ATMs and 16,000 staff, where he led the strategy and business development efforts.
King holds an MBA in Finance and International Banking and a BA (Business & Economics) from York University, Toronto, Canada.
The release stated, “the fellow Directors, the Management and staff of Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago Limited welcome Mr King and congratulate him on his appointment and look forward to continuing to work with him in his new capacity.”
Dieter Jentsch, Group Head, International Banking, Scotiabank indicated the following on King’s appointment: “Brendan is well suited to the role of Chairman of Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago. He was recently appointed Senior Vice President, International Banking and brings over 24 years of experience to his role, having worked in Canada, multiple locations in the Caribbean, Hong Kong, and most recently, as the Deputy CEO of our affiliate in Thailand, Thanachart Bank.
“We are certain he will continue to deliver on the Bank’s strategic goals and take Scotiabank Trinidad and Tobago to even greater heights.” The release also stated that the bank also took this opportunity to thank Chrominska, for her service as Chairman since 2013. “She is saluted for her commitment, strong leadership, and many contributions to our customers, employees and communities during her tenure,” the release ended.
