De Montrichard earns Squash crown

Montrichard had a commanding start in the championship match and posted two early 11-8, 11-6 wins. However, Montrichard failed to maintain his momentum in the following two matches, which Sanguinette capitalised on to level the playing field with two 11-8, 11-8 responses along the smooth court.

With top honours up for grabs in the final match, points went back and forth between the two, but it was Montrichard who would affirm authority of the court with a stern 11-8 finish to capture the tournament’s top prize.

Throughout their respective semi-final campaigns on Friday, Montrichard got past Wolfram Nothnagel 11-2, 11-6, 10-12, 11-9 while Sanguinetter got the better of Luc Davis 11-6, 11-6, 11- 8. Receiving A Division bronze was Nothnagel however, as he went on to defeat Davis 11-9, 11- 2, 6-11, 11-7 in the third place playoff.

Into the B Division, Nicholas Caddle slammed his way to victory with a strong 11-9, 5-11, 11-8, 11-7 performance over Godfrey Wei. In the ‘semis’, Caddle was made to work (11-9, 11-9, 6-11, 11-6) by Keevan Lee Lum while Wei cruised past female player, Faith Gillezeau, 11-1, 11-5, 11- 5. Lee Lum would go on to bag the bronze medal with a come-from-behind 7-11, 11-7, 11-5, 11- 2 win over Gillezeau.

Meanwhile, Jason Kong trumped all opponents in the C Division to claim this year’s trophy. Squaring off against a persistent Kim Gillezeau in the final, Kong had a tough time but prevailed 11-6, 9-11, 11-8, 9-11, 11-6 to cop the crown. Sebastien Krogh strolled to a third place finish as he won via “walkover”.
