Young is creative director for Montreal Caribbean Fashion Week 2015

“The intricate, important details of the French influence in Montr?al and the large number of creative Caribbeans who have made Montr?al their home fascinates me,” said Young who added that this inaugural event creates a gateway of possibilities for targeting export to niche markets in the eclectic multicultural hub of Montr?al.

“Montr?al Caribbean Fashion Week also sets up networking links for new partnerships in the creative realm, among like-minded, innovative entrepreneurs. I am excited for this event’s future,” he said.

Young will be working in this diasporic space alongside Gemma Rayburn-Baynes, President of the Playmas Montr?al Cultural Association. He credits his extensive work in Haiti (Fashion Week), French Guiana, Martinique and Guadeloupe for preparing him with the tools necessary to understand the melting pot of culture in Qu?bec, as well as its international, cross-cultural French influences.

Keeping consistent with this year’s theme “Chocolate, Wine & Fashion”, patrons at the event can expect to be treated to delectable chocolates from the Caribbean at each event, paired with spectacular Qu?bec wines. The runway is also set to display a grand showcase of haute couture and ready to wear fashion designs, which include Trinidad designers Tyrone Nelson, Athaliah Samuel, Robert Young of the Cloth, and Lisa Marie Henry of Liilah Swimwear. The cast of models will also feature former beauty queen Athaliah Samuel. Other designers will originate from Barbados, Guyana, Grenada, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Jamaica, New York, St Kitts, Toronto, US Virgin Islands and Montr?al. In total, organisers have confirmed over 30 designers to be featured at the MCFW event.
