Calypso Girls train in Sydney

Captain Joelisa Cooper said she is excited to be a part of her third Netball World Cup, having represented Trinidad and Tobago in 2007 (in Auckland, New Zealand) and 2011 (in Singapore City, Singapore).

“To be representing my country on a whole is very exciting, but this is my third (Netball World Cup) and I am really excited to actually be here and to compete,” Cooper said in an article on the tournament’s website.

“We are stoked to be here and can’t wait until the actual tournament starts and portray what we have more or less been training for.”

Trinidad and Tobago play their opening Netball World Cup 2015 game against Australia on Friday night at Allphones Arena.

Cooper said the team is excited and prepared to face Australia in their opening game.

“We’re ready for Friday, our first game is against Australia,” Cooper said.

“In all honesty, Australia is the number one, we’ve come to play the best netball for our country and that’s what we are here to do.”

Trinidad and Tobago’s other matches in Group A will be against New Zealand on Saturday and Barbados on Sunday, both at the Allphones Arena. Ranked tenth in the world (as of June 4), the “Calypso Girls” finished seventh in their most recent Netball World Cup appearance, in 2011 in Singapore.

They qualified for the 2015 World Cup after winning the Americas Qualification Tournament last year in Canada.

Trinidad and Tobago team - Joelisa Cooper (captain), Afeisha Noel, Amanda Cameron, Candice Guerero, Daystar Swift, Kalifa McCollin, Kemba Duncan, Kielle Connelly, Onella Jack, Rhonda John-Davis, Samantha Wallace, Tricia Liverpool; Wesley Gomes (coach).
