TT, South Windwards in Women Super50 opener

Also on today’s agenda, reigning champs Jamaica will meet Barbados at the Exchange Ground in Couva while North Windwards (involving players from St Lucia and Dominica) will square off against Guyana at the National Cricket Centre, Couva.

Matches will be played in a round-robin basis while the top two teams will advance to the final on August 16 at the National Cricket Centre.

Gerald Garcia, Trinidad and Tobago coach, said in a telephone interview yesterday, “as far as the preparations (are) concerned, everything was good.

We had a meeting (yesterday), everybody is quite prepared. They are focused on their roles that they have to perform.” Garcia noted that the players are aware that Trinidad and Tobago have not claimed the Women Super50 trophy for a number of years, and they are keen to end their title drought on home soil.

“The players showed the commitment in their preparations, the way they were determined, they really worked hard, they did long hours doing their skill-set and I am happy with what they (did),” the TT coach said. “I am quite confident in the squad (and) in every individual in the squad.” The team, which had a pre-season tour of Barbados a few weeks ago, will be fielding one newcomer in national Under-19 captain Reneice Boyce.

“She has (fitted) in quite well,” Garcia said.

Trinidad and Tobago squad: Merissa Aguilleira (captain), Anisa Mohammed (vice-captain), Felicia Walters, Amanda Samaroo, Britney Cooper, Shenelle Lord, Stacy Ann King, Reniece Boyce, Kirbyina Alexander, Lee Ann Kirby, Karishma Ramharack, Stephanie Ramcharan, Alisa Mohammed, Samantha Bissoon; Gerald Garcia (coach), Marjorie Thomas (manager), Wayne Samuel (trainer).
