Trade Ministry releases supermarkets price list
The full list was posted on the Ministry’s Facebook page yesterday.
The Ministry said the selected products, which impact consumers across all income groups, were derived from a Basket of Goods Survey conducted by the Consumer Affairs Division in 2014.
Some of the items include pork stew which costs $21.43 at Maharaj Westside in Arima while that same item costs $17.53 in Jumbo Foods in Barataria.
Salted fish with bone costs $36.00 at Maharaj Westside in Arima while at Toolsies in Cunupia, it costs $22.50. Cheddar cheese costs $27.27 at Clasic in Cunupia while at Jumbo Foods in Barataria, it costs $22.72. One dozen large eggs costs $24.99 at Food Giant in Barataria while at Toolsies in Cunupia, it costs $21.
Ibis flour (ten kg) costs $66.80 at Jumbo Foods, Barataria and $54.95 at Low Cost, Cunupia.
In the Curepe, Debe, Diego Martin and Mayaro areas, garlic (454 g) costs $12.98 in Tru Valu and Massy Stores in Diego Martin while at Persad D’ Food King in Mayaro it costs $9.99.
SMA Infant formula (900 g) costs $170.95 at Tru Valu in Curepe and Diego Martin but at Maharaj Brothers, Curepe it is priced at $155.24.
Palmolive toilet soap (3 pk) costs $19.99 at Persad D’ Food King, Mayaro while at G and N in Debe it costs $13.99.
In the Point Fortin, Port-of-Spain and Princes Town areas, one pack of Lipton tea costs $21.99 at Payless, Portof- Spain and SNSR, Princes Town while at Persad’s, Point Fortin it costs $18.49.
Orchard orange drink (1 litre) costs $12.99 at SNSR, Princes Town and $11.24 at Massy Stores, Point Fortin. A pack of ovaltine (300 g) costs $29.99 at Payless, Port-of-Spain and at Persad D’ Food King, Princes Town it costs $24.99.
In the Rio Claro, San Fernando, San Juan and Sangre Grande areas Golden Ray cooking margarine (227 g) costs $11.24 at S and it costs $8.99 at Ramesh and Leela and Tru Valu, in San Juan. Lion baking powder (454 g) costs $9.99 Maharaj, Sangre Grande while at S and S Persad, Rio Claro it costs $7.99. Matouk’s peanut butter (500 g) costs $21.99 at Maharaj, Sangre Grande and $16.86 at S and S Persard, Rio Claro.
In the Siparia/Fyzabad, St James, Toco and Tunapuna areas, Target corned beef costs $14.50 at John’s, St James and $19 at Albert Nixon, Toco. Swiss spaghetti (400 g) costs $4.49 at Cost Cutters, Tunapuna and $7 at Albert Nixon Toco. Matouk’s mauby (750 ml) costs $15.00 at Albert Nixon, Toco and $12.75 at John’s, St James and Cost Cutters, Tunapuna.
