Films for a Better Place calling film-makers

The NGO, which focuses on education and information exchange around environmental and sustainability issues, scored big with their 2015 documentary A Better Place. The movie earned warm reviews for its focus on groups working to make a positive difference in Trinidad and Tobago, and recently received an at the We Care Film Festival in India.

Films for a Better Place will involve participants in a workshop aimed at producing movies for this year’s Green Screen, taking place from November 1 - 12.

Films for a Better Place will support and encourage the development of short documentary film content that tells stories about environmental and sustainability issues in TT , said a media release.

The intention is to support the production of films with a unique, creative voice that seek to move audiences to action on issues that matter.

Five selected participants will take part in a pre-production workshop on September 3 and 4. They will then enter a phase of production with final films submitted by September 30.

Each participating film-maker will receive a small grant to support the production of their film. Participants are expected to have access to film-making equipment.

Award-winning director Miquel Galofr? of T&T Rocks will lead the selection process, while Jonathan Ali will be programme manager.

The five completed films will be screened at Green Screen 2016, alongside other local and international movies.

To be eligible for Films for a Better Place, film-makers must be residents of Trinidad and Tobago who have previously made at least one short documentary.

Submissions must include an outline (between 300 and 500 words) of the film the applicant wishes to make. Submissions can be on any subject related to environmental or sustainability issues. The completed film must be between five and ten minutes in length.

Applicants must also submit an excerpt of previous documentary work, no longer than three minutes in length, via a Vimeo link, as well as a short biography and a photographic headshot.

The deadline date for submissions is August 22. Selected participants will be notified by August 26.
