The COP, just a one man show or worse
So elite a membership that in 2006, I described them as the “knife and fork people”. It was my view then and still is, that the COP is unable to engage the interests of enough “eating off the banana leaf ” citizens or those of us who enjoy our KFC straight from the box, to ever run TT .
They mean well but if there is insufficient grassroots support, you just cannot hack it.
The new COP leader and the deputies are incapable of leading anybody anywhere politically new. It is not my duty to spell out to them that they collectively lack the charisma to excite the electorate.
Their only alleged “bad boy” who could cross backwards and forwards along social lines, Anil Roberts, is of himself from impeccable high society background. But let us leave party boy Anil out of this and move on.
The founding father of the COP, Winston Dookeran, allegedly ducked and ran when the political landscape got shaky.
Same behaviour from eminent lawyer, Prakash Ramadhar, who greased himself out of a tight, no longer beautiful political corner when he saw his career going nowhere.
Fast forward to today and we have the ever faithful servant and newest COP leader, Doctor Anirudh Mahabir spouting distasteful nonsense about Doctor Rowley’s alleged illnesses and the fate of the sixty- year-old Peoples National Movement.
If the PNM did not collapse in 1986 why would it collapse now? Should anything serious be happening with Rowley’s health, there are more than enough qualified, gifted ministers to run the PNM. It is understandable that the COP must attempt to garner some badly needed press coverage if only to spout Carnival Monday Fancy Sailor Robber talk about the PNM facing political crises. The COP is so dead one wonders if it was a political fairytale. The UNC leadership must be in hysterics at the talk of the COP being an electable party.
Please, spare us (PNM and UNC) the doom and gloom that totally envelops the COP.
Read my lips “There are only two commercially viable political parties in TT who can survive a fight to the political wires.
