Curepe Sports thrash BFL in Courts T20 semis
Curepe Sports won the toss and posted a score of 108 for eight after their decision to bat first. However, BFL Sports were shredded apart by the Curepe bowlers in their run chase, bundled out for a measly 59 runs after 14.1 overs.
With a slow outfield, it was good running between the wickets by the Curepe Sports batsmen, accompanied by poor fielding from BFL Sports that contributed to the one-sided result.
After the tenth over, Curepe were 53 for one as Clevon Federick (24) helped lay the platform for a good total.
But despite a knock of 20 not out from Joshua Seales and 19 from Yosif Ramlogan, Man-of-thematch and BFL Sports’ Suruj Ragoonath managed to claim four wickets for 18 runs to restrict them to a modest total.
BFL Sports crumbled from the get-go as they lost an early wicket in the first over and never recovered their innings.
Allister Pierre took two catches as Curepe Sports kept the pressure on the batsmen with outstanding fielding, forcing them to take risks and make tough shots. After the sixth over, BFL Sports had 35 runs for the loss of three wickets then struggled to 50 for nine after 11.3 overs, losing five wickets for five runs in the process.
Mark Gordon took three wickets for 10 runs and Neil Williams claimed three wickets for 11 runs. BFL Sports were looking to make it into their fourth final of the year and pick up their fourth title. It was not to be, however, as Curepe Sports head to their second final in two years, with ambitions to take it one step further than they did last year. After losing out on the 2015 trophy, Curepe Sports fancy their chances in this year’s final against Biche Sports Club, who advanced to the finals after having a faster net run rate over Unity, due to their Semi-Final match being postponed three times due to rain.
The final of the Courts Inter club T20 is scheduled to bowl off on Tuesday at the National Cricket Centre, Couva at 7:30pm. It follows a ‘Mega 6 Competition’ at 6pm, which features one representative from each of the 16 participating teams in the tournament, vying to hit the ‘biggest 6’ for cash prizes.
The 3rd place playoff between BFL Sports and Unity is scheduled for later today at 7pm at the same venue.
