Lewis still harbours Olympic medal dream

Chow completed her course in seven minutes and 50 seconds.

Throughout the race, the 39-year old marine athlete maintained third position but was soon outrowed by Algerian Amina Rouba.

This final race along the Rio waters brought to an end Chow’s historic stint which saw TT be represented in the sport of rowing for the first time in Olympic history. Chow was also this nation’s oldest competing athlete and is unsure of taking aim at qualification for Tokyo 2020.

Meanwhile in other Olympic news, Men’s Laser Class sailor Andrew Lewis completed his tenth and final race on Saturday by capturing 32 points. However, his overall score of 324 points was just good enough for 39th overall.

Throughout his 10-race Olympic journey, Lewis scored 42; 34; 39; 36; 40; 34; 31; was disqualified in race eight; 36 and 32.

Following his exit, Lewis took to social media to vent his feelings on his performance, having significantly bounced back from a terrible accident eight months ago.

It read; “To the WORLD out there and I mean the world! THANK YOU. I told you all I wanted to go to Brazil to win a Medal for T&T because that has always been my dream and it still remains my dream. When I think back to eight months ago when I was laying down in the hospital bed I asked myself what my dreams were then, they were to one-day walk again, breath on my own again and deep down inside to make a comeback in time for Rio.” “Yesterday (Saturday) I did two things, I competed in my first event since the accident and I fulfilled my dream of making a comeback in time for Rio. I may never know why this accident happened to me in my life but what I do know is it may have cost me a medal. Life is not always about the Olympic Medal but it’s always about living and loving, the silverware is the cherry on top and whether that comes or not I am happy for life.” “These are the times when I remember it’s the journey where you learn the most and not the destination. So I will continue to learn, love and live this beautiful life. Let’s all inspire a generation and make the world a better place. Thanks again to everyone, you all know who you are! Big things to come. Namaste.”
