Pensioner drowns at Embacadere

His premonition came true on Tuesday as he drowned while swimming at Embacadere, San Fernando.

“He loves the sea and any time his grandchildren were around he would want to take them to the beach,” said Reba.

“He wanted to take them since Friday, but I was telling him that he doesn’t have to go to the beach with the children every time. He always used to say that he would die by the beach. So said so done.” Newsday understands that on Tuesday afternoon, Waldrop took his eight grandchildren and his great-grandchild to the beach near “the steps” at Embacadere, San Fernando. However, just as they were about to leave, Waldrop went for one more bath in the water.

It was at this point he began experiencing difficulties. He was pulled from the water and persons tried to revive him, but to no avail. “My grandfather was a very good swimmer,” said Reba. “So it was a shock to me when I heard that he had drowned. I was not home at the time but when they called me and said that he had died by the beach, I could not believe it. When I got to the beach I saw him there lying on the sand.

Right now everyone is in shock.

He was very loving, funny and kind. He was everyone’s favourite uncle.” An autopsy done at the Forensic Science Centre, St James confirmed that Waldrop died from drowning.
