Warriors seeking to cement top spot in Group C
This match is carded to begin at 8.15 pm.
The Stephen Hart-coached squad and his troops arrived in Jacksonville on Saturday afternoon, via Miami, following Friday night’s 2-2 draw with Guatemala, which secured TT ’s spot in the CONCACAF Final Round starting in November.
There was steady rainfall yesterday but Hart conducted a one-hour training session at the Episcopal School of Jacksonville before allowing the squad some rest time before another practice session last evening. Jacksonville Mayor Lenny Curry declared a state of emergency last Thursday due to the threat of Tropical Storm Hermine but there is no longer a storm watch in the area. Seattle Sounders midfielder Joevin Jones, still smarting from his pair of goals on Friday, said, “I know I had to put on a good performane and play my part in order to help the team and I was happy to do that.
“Even though we started strongly, they kind of pegged us back with the first goal and from then we knew we had to come back even stronger and we did that. I think it’s the kind of spirit and fight we will need in the next round,” Jones added.
As his focus switched to tomorrow’s match-up with the Americans, Jones said he would fancy the idea of topping the group ahead of the Americans. TT (with 11 points) need at least a draw to seal first place in the group, with the Americans currently on 10 points.
“Yes I think it would be a good way to end the semi-final round with a good result against the US and a strong performance,” said Jones. “Obviously I know a few of the guys from playing in the (Major League Soccer) here and there has been a lot of talk about the match.
Both teams are through but I am sure the two teams will go all out to try and win the match and set the pace for the next round.” Midfielder Kevan George, who was a second half substitute on Friday, plays his club football in Jacksonville.
“It’s quite decent in terms of how popular the game is here and it’s growing all the time,” said George. “I expect the fans will turn up to see the US play even though both teams are through. There is a lot of support here for the game and the atmosphere on Tuesday night should be impressive.”
