Father not surprised by son’s killing

Leon, a 34-year-old father of two was found dead, with gunshot wounds, in a bushy area off Caroni South Bank Road on Thursday afternoon.

Newsday understands that passers by saw the body and alerted the police. While relatives claimed in an earlier report that the man was not known to be involved in any criminal activities, his father Hilton told reporters yesterday that Samuel chose to follow his friends, whom the father described as unsavoury characters. “I am not hiding it,” Hilton said.

“I know he was involved in serious crimes, but that is still my son.

I am still in shock right now. I don’t know how to react or what to do.

It is the friends that he kept and, let me tell you something, the friends that he had were not nice people.” Hilton said Samuel was a very nice child growing up, however when he turned 19, he began acting out. Newsday was told that despite being able to speak multiple languages fluently and advancing in his studies in accounting, the friends he had led him to soliciting his services to members of the underworld.

“He was so smart he spoke four languages.”
