Attorney Dion Abdool new TTTI chairman

Abdool, with over 20 years experience in the corporate environment, holds a master’s degree in corporate and commercial law, is a chartered secretary, a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators, and a Harvard alumnus, a release from TTTI said.

Martin Farrell, former registrar of the Integrity Commission, is now the vice-chairman.

Other members of the newly-elected board are Melissa Cobham (ACCA), senior counsel Dr Claude Denbow SC, mediator/retired diplomat Susan Gordon, research coordinator Ariane Moonsie, business educator Dr Kamla Mungal, governance specialist Dr Jens-Ulrich Poppen, attorney Fern Narcis- Scope, creative director Jason, and supply chain professional Shyanne Telfer.

In his outgoing address at the TTTI’s recent 17th Annual General Meeting at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port-of-Spain, Murray said that despite this country’s grim economic and financial situation, the prevalence of crime and the compromise of our institutions, TTTI “is the most viable conduit for change.” The onus was for TTTI, he said, “to redouble our efforts, to be the catalyst that drives us to that vision of a world in which government, politics, business, civil society and the daily lives of people are free of corruption.” David West, director of the Police Complaints Authority, in delivering the feature address titled “Tackling Corruption - The way forward to attain a country and region free of corruption,” called for an international commission against impunity in TT as the way forward in this country’s fight against corruption.

TTTI is the local chapter of Transparency International (TI). Launched in 1998 by citizens concerned about escalating corruption, it was incorporated as a notfor profit organisation in 2001.
