Unity SC boss asks for cricket ground
The club, which was established in 1950, is currently using the Howsen Village Recreation Ground in Coryal Village. However, according to president of the Unity Sports Club Rasheed Khan, the Howsen Village Recreation Ground is too small to accommodate a high level of cricket.
The club is also appealing to the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation to lay a turf wicket and one double net at the Lower Cumuto Recreation Ground to allow the youngsters in the Cumuto/Tamana Electoral Districts the opportunity to play an improved standard of cricket.
In the past, Khan has made attempts to seek help from the Sport Company of Trinidad and Tobago and the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs.
Khan, who is a community activist and a national award recipient of the Medal of Merit for Community Service in 2002, has been advocating for the youths in the north eastern area since 1973.
Despite playing in adverse conditions at the Howsen Recreation Ground, Unity Sports Club won the senior division of the North East Zonal Council in the 2016 season. The club also became the first team in the North East to reach the semifinals in the islandwide 2016 Court’s Inter Club T20 tournament.
