50-year-old man shot dead working PH taxi
“This wasn’t a robbery, because they did not take anything from the car,” said one of Harrylal’s brothers who asked that he not be identified.
“The man just put the gun to my brother’s head and hit him one in his head and one in his neck. I just wish the police find the person who did this and bring them to justice. It is not right to snuff out someone’s life just so.” Newsday was told that Harrylal picked up a man and three other passengers. The killer sat in the back seat along with two female passengers. As Harrlylal turned off Tunapuna Road and onto St Thomas Street, the man told Harrylal that he wanted to be dropped off. As the vehicle slowed down, the man drew a firearm and put it to the back of Harrylal’s head. He turned to the passengers, put his fingers on his lips and ordered them to be quiet.
The gunman then shot Harrylal in the head and in the neck. As the vehicle came to a stop, the man escaped through an open yard.
Harrylal died at the scene. Police officers were alerted and Cpl Bernard and Cpl Kassie responded.
Relatives described Harrylal as a family-oriented man who changed his life after recovering from a drug dependency more than seven years ago. He is the father of a 14-year-old girl and worked in the Forestry Division in addition to working as a PH driver. Relatives added that he had been a pan player for the Exodus Steel Orchestra and had travelled the world playing the national instrument.
