Govt not sincere about FATCA

It is an established technique by leaders when they don’t want to allow time for thorough review of the proposal. This invariably means that there are insertions which give them powers that they should not have.

Whatever the UNC may have wanted when it was in office — and there is no evidence that the former opposition was in any way supportive of the proposals — it cannot be expected that the current Opposition would simply accept the Government’s position.

There is no obligation residing with the Opposition to buy “cat in bag”, as the Leader of the Opposition says.

Even worse is the blatant attempt to “blackmail” the Opposition by making a “song and dance” about it in the full view of the public, in the Parliament.

Had there been sincerity in the request it would have been made in private prior to the commencement of the session and agreement arrived at so that the public could have been informed by way of a statement to the Parliament that the parties would cooperate on the legislation. It gives support to the view that the Government is incapable of managing the country and is only interested in playing political games.

By now it should have come to the realisation that people are not going to continue to be fooled by political gamesmanship.

The country is demanding results, very little of which is apparent.
